APC

I had a blast in Arizona this past weekend. More than words can discribe. I did the 63-mile course in just under 9-hours. Brutal course, but fun at the same time. Easy to get lost without the GPS. This will be on the schedule next year for sure. I'd like to thank Chad and Scott for all the work that they did and for sharing this route with the rest of us.

The day before apc on the 24hour course.

Everyone stuck together for the 1st 10-miles.

Then you had to be on your game as everyone spreed out and the trail started to disapear into the cactus.i stayed with the lead 5 riders until I threw a chain. Then I was on my own til Lee caught me on the gasline fire road. I rode with another guy through blood sucker wash but forgot his name. After that I was by myself til Freeman Rd. I was told by Chad that we were some of only 30- cyclist to ride this route. You could tell, looks like a bunch of rabbit trails to me.

The gasline fire rd. You got a time bonus if ya didn't dab (put a foot down). I dabbed. i'm sure if I knew the route a bit better I know i'm capable of doing it. But it was my first time on the route and it was very hard not to stop and look around.

After Gas line comes blood sucker wash. no pics of that. It literaly took the life out of me. Deep, deep sand. Almost cramped. After Bloodsucker it was back in the brush to battle with the cactus some more.Sand or cactus, don't know which was worse. Probaly the cactus, there was hardly a brick from the unfriendly brush except for on the fire roads.

Were's Lee? he's somewhere in this pic. I met alot of really cool nice down to earth people on this ride. It's nice to know there are still good people in the world. And that they are crazy cyclist like me;-)

There is an arch out here somewere. I didn't get a chance to notice it but i think it's in the background. Something to look for next year.

Some more cactus for ya. The cholo was thick. I could complain about the cactus but it started to grow on me. Now that i'm back home. I miss the cactus

This is Antelpoe peak. I coulda got some bonus time if I climbed to the top but I didn't and now I have another reason to come back again. If ya go to Scott's page you can check out the view from the top.

After the peak it's downhill on Freeman Rd. were I was caught by a guy named Rob. If i would of climbed to the peak I would have ran into a few more folks , but like I said, next year for sure. After Freeman rd we got on Willow Springs rd. Once on Willow Springs it's up and down til we get close to the 24-hour course were we hit up painter boy trail. A really fun section of single track but once again heavily over grown but super fun non the less.

Some pics of Painter bot trail.

After Painter boy trail we wound up on the 24-hour course. Once again a chance for a time bonus if I do alap on the 24-hour course but i had about 10 oz's of water left in my pack so I did just a little section of some super fun single track then whem leaving the 24-hour course I hit up another fun section. I think it was called the brain trail because of all the brain cactus. from there that single track brought me to the Willow springs arch on Willow Springs rd. and it was 8-miles back to my car and a parking lot full of cyclist talking about this awesome ride.

My legs after this ride were torn-Up. Looks like I got in a fight with some cacti. And the Cacti won. Like I said, I will be here again next year. Chad was talking about putting in a few more climbs in the beginning. I'm down.
The next ride of this Arizona Endurance series will be in Sedona called Big friggin loop. It's in May so i'm not sure yet. I'm thinkin about going on a Snipe hunt on mothers day weekend. It's a full moon and Kokopelli should be awesome.
Comments:
